Small jobs done properly

Every home needs electrical work from time to time, from a power point that has stopped working to lights that flicker or power that keeps tripping. We find the cause and fix it properly.

We also add power points and lighting, replace worn fittings, and carry out electrical safety checks, which are especially worthwhile in older villas and character homes.

Alongside homes and rentals, we look after shops, offices, workshops and small commercial sites across the Kapiti Coast. No job is too small, and urgent faults are prioritised.

What's included

  • Faulty power points and switches
  • Flickering lights and lighting repairs
  • Fault-finding for tripping power
  • New power points and circuits
  • Electrical safety checks
  • Rental and light commercial maintenance

Repairs FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Anything else, Jamie is happy to talk it through.

What causes a circuit breaker to trip?

A breaker trips when a circuit is overloaded or has a short circuit. An RCD trips when current leaks to earth, often through a faulty appliance, moisture or damaged wiring. Either way it is a safety device doing its job. If it keeps happening, we track down the cause and fix it.

There is no set interval for a home you own, but it is worth a check when you buy, before you renovate, and every few years in an older home with original wiring. Get it checked straight away if you notice warm switches, flickering lights, a burning smell or frequent tripping.

In New Zealand an official electrical warrant of fitness applies to things like caravans, relocatable buildings and boats that are hired out. Houses do not need one. When people ask for an electrical WoF on a house, they usually mean an electrical safety check, which we do.

If you own and live in the home, you can replace an existing light fitting yourself with the power off, as long as it does not involve the switchboard. New wiring has to be tested and connected by a licensed electrical inspector. In a rental or a workplace, the work must be done by a licensed electrician.
